Available as Fat Quarters and by the metre (minimum 50cm)
This stunning fabric is produced in China by the Bai and Yi minorities who live the mountainous regions of the Yunnan province by stitching and tying lengths of white cotton into intricate patterns, ready for dyeing. This is particularly labour intensive work and may take several weeks to prepare a whole bolt of cloth depending upon the complexity of the design.
This classic design is produced by gathering the fabric in tiny, tight pleats, rather like smocking, before dyeing to create the pattern that looks similar to tree bark.
Suitable for quilting, patchwork, bag making and dressmaking. This is 100% cotton fabric of a medium weight and makes excellent jackets and structured dresses.
Please note: This fabric is HAND CREATED and therefore some irregularities in the pattern may occur. These are entirely normal and this is part of the charm of a handcrafted piece of fabric.
Chinese Shibori - White bark
This fabric has been dyed with natural indigo and will need washing before use to remove any residual dye. We recommend that you treat it like a pair of new dark denim jeans and wash in a 30 degree wash with detergent before use. If you plan to use with a light fabric it is prudent to give it a couple of washes first.
Unfortunately cut fabrics can not be returned
