Hand-created Indigo Shibori (Zha Ran) Cotton fabric in a range of traditional patterns.

This stunning fabric is produced in China by the Bai and Yi minorities who live the mountainous regions of the Yunnan province by stitching and tieing lengths of white cotton into intricate patterns, ready for dying. This is particularly labour intestive work and may take several weeks to prepare a whole bolt of cloth depending upon the complexity of the design.

These fat quarter pieces are ideal for making small items or patchwork.

  • It is normal for the excess indigo to be released from the item for the first couple of washes (just as it would be with a new pair of dark jeans) and therefore we recommend that the item is washed at least once in a 30 degree wash with similar colours, before wearing.
